Engineer Gets Revenge with EDM Remix

Ever wonder what would happen if you didn't pay your engineer? Well, hardcore metal band Altitudes is currently finding out; when the group failed to pay engineer Dan Atkinson of Dan's Labs Studios in Long Beach, CA, for recent recording and video work, the engineer responded creatively. Posted to YouTube on October 21, 2013, "Hardcore EDM Dance Band!" takes the vocals from the original recording session, and drops them into a synthetic EDM club track, creating a hilarious combination of the two genres. The result is an instant viral hit—as of two days later, the clip already has 623,194 hits.

Altitudes’ vocalist, under his YouTube Channel name ‘TheScreamAlex,’ commented on the video, writing: “It’s crazy seeing this, Dan our engineer do something like this to us. We never put the video out, we never put the song up for download or even share it [sic]. Basically we just weren’t financially stable at the time but we WERE planning on paying him back. After seeing this it’s crazy because we never thought he would act in such a way. Were [sic] not sorry because our intentions weren’t to let his hardwork [sic] go un paid [sic] for.”

At press time, Dan’s Lab Studios could not be reached for comment.

So what do you think? Do you think the engineer went too far by posting this remix, or did the band deserve it? Is it all a hoax? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
