Video: Producing Simple Minds’ ‘New Gold Dream’

While Simple Minds remains best-known for the eternally omnipresent "Don't You Forget About Me," the group's true highwater mark has always been its breakthrough 1982 album, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84), which recently got the box set treatment. Marking the occasion, producer/engineer Peter Walsh sat down with the original tracks of the classic single, "Promised You A Miracle," to solo tracks and show how the production was built, but he also discussed working at London's Townhouse Studios, what gear was used, recording multiple drummers at once, how over-compressed rehearsal tapes recorded on a boombox influenced the album's sound and lots more.
