Utica, MI (May 31, 2016)—Yesterday was opening day for the brand-new Jimmy Johns Minor League Baseball Field in Utica, Michigan. Two years in the making, the $15-million ballpark opened its doors on Monday as it hosted the first game of the likewise brand-new United Shore Professional Baseball League. The home team—the Utica Unicorns—beat the Bloomfield-Birmingham Beavers 5-1 before a sell-out crowd of 4,200-plus fans, all of whom heard every play-by-play commentary via an ISP Technologies system of Pro Audio and HDDS gear.
ISP Technologies designed the house system and additionally custom-designed new speaker cabinets to be best-fit the parameters of the field. The resulting customized, weatherproof CX110i and CX114i loudspeakers will reportedly provide a more accurate dispersion pattern due to the use of a high performance coaxial design. The patented High Definition Distributed System consists of ceiling mount and wall mount speakers, with subwoofers and five MC1000 master control units for separate zone control of all areas of the venue.
Bluewater Technologies, a national AV integrator based in Southfield, MI, was the integrator of choice for the installation, and will additionally service all audio, video and lighting of the ballpark. ISP Technologies’ audio gear is exclusively installed throughout the venue.
The ballpark and the league are the creation of Andy Appleby, founder and CEO of General Sports and Entertainment. Planning to use the ballpark as a template of sorts for similar venues in other states, Appleby is set on bulking out the league—which currently has three teams—into 20 teams and 10 venues over the next 10 years.
