dB Makes Good Turn At Main Street

Hattiesburg, MS (March 7, 2014)—Impact Systems of Jackson, MS recently designed and installed a new audio system for the Main Street Baptist Church, located in Hattiesburg, MS. The new audio rig is centered around dB Technologies line arrays.

Main Street Baptist Church is a large, square building that seats 1,200. The sanctuary features a 45-foot ceiling, a balcony that wraps around three sides of the room, wooden pews, stained glass and a plethora of hard, flat surfaces. “Given the aesthetics, it’s no wonder they were having intelligibility issues,” said Darrell Henderson, owner of Impact Systems. “I was confident the dB Technologies DVA-T4 line array would be the solution. I had used it in production for years and knew it would provide the depth of coverage they required as well as the vertical and horizontal control they needed.”

In order to hang the left-right arrays, Henderson first had to install a truss with two 1-ton Stagemaker hoist motors above the dropped ceiling. Then the line arrays–each consisting of seven self-powered DVA T4 modules–were flown; a three-way active line array system, the DVA-T4 module is loaded with an 8-inch woofer equipped with a high power 2.5-inch voice coil, a 6.5-inch midrange driver and two 1-inch HF drivers with 1.4-inch voice coils. The end result is a max SPL of 128 dB per module.

“These boxes have the tightest vocal patterns I have ever heard – even in the last row of the balcony,” Henderson added. “The pastor is absolutely thrilled with the end result, as is everyone who attends services.”
