Fort-ified Sound for Sanremo Festival

Some sound providers treat preparing to do festival sound like they’re getting ready for war—so what gear do you take into battle if your festival is held in an ancient fort?

Sanremo, Italy (March 14, 2017)—Some sound providers treat preparing to do festival sound like they’re getting ready for war—so what gear do you take into battle if your festival is held in an ancient fort?

That’s the quandary that Exhibo, a pro audio company in Italy, recently faced as it handled sound for broadcast performances at the Fort Santa Tecla venue of the Sanremo Music Festival, an annual week-long event based around a popular TV singing competition. Inside Fort Santa Tecla, the festival featured artist performances and DJ sets broadcast live on the national TV channel, Rai.

Exhibo supplied two Dante-enabled Allen & Heath dLive S Class mixing systems, with a S5000 Surface and DM48 MixRack managing FOH and monitors, and a S3000 and DM48 for broadcast and recording.

A ME personal monitoring system was also supplied for rehearsals and the drum fill mix, and a Dante-enabled Chrome Edition GLD-80 digital mixer was provided for the DJ sets, where the GLD Remote App was used for remote control of settings, such as the PA EQ, mixing the feed coming from broadcast desk, and audio feed from the main competition venue.

Artists performing at the venue included DJ Lele Sacchi, DJ Ralf, Clementino, Michele Zarrillo, Michele Nuo and Ermal Meta.
