Detroit, MI (June 28, 2011)–Engineer David Frangioni of Audio One recently recorded three sold-out Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band shows at Detroit’s Palace of Auburn Hills.
“When I got the call to record the live shows in Detroit, it was a great moment, because I grew up listening to Bob’s music, “says Frangioni. “Recording a Bob Seger live show is somewhat like recording a religious event, with the audience singing along to every chant and chorus. It really puts you in the moment, and I was focused on capturing that energy.”
Frangioni was contacted by producer Dan Barnett of Wizard HD, to record the audio for the Seger shows. “I recommended that the Seger tour bring in David Frangioni and Audio One to oversee the audio recording,” says Barnett. “We produce a lot of musical concerts like this and doing it digitally is a much more simple and efficient way to record.”
Frangioni opted for an Avid Pro Tools HD2 Accel rig interfaced to an Avid Venue D-Show console.
“When you are working in a live setting, you have to make sure that not only is every detail covered, but that while you’re recording, nothing interferes with the live concert,” says Frangioni. “As we were recording digitally from the Venue, everything had to correspond to the live feed to the house (audience). It only took a few hours to get the routing and patching done so that Brad Divens (FOH engineer) had what he needed and I could record all 64 tracks. There was approximately 4 hours, each of the 3 shows, to continuously record. Fortunately, it all went smoothly, without incident.”
