Nashville, TN (July 18, 2017)—No matter how ‘ole’ the Grand Ole Opry gets, the fabled home of country music remains timeless, and playing the hallowed Nashville stage has become a rite of passage within the genre. One thing that isn’t ole there, however, is the monitor desk, as the venue recently replaced its Yamaha PM1D after a decade of service.
In its place now is a new Yamaha Rivage PM10, provided by Clair Solutions in Nashville. Staff monitor mixer Bob Bussiere noted that the previous Yamaha desk helped pave the way for upgrading to the new one.
“The audio team is very comfortable with Yamaha products,” he said. “Most importantly, in comparison to the other consoles we looked at, this desk was designed for the monitor position, where we felt the other manufacturers’ products were more focused on front of house applications.”
Regarding getting up to speed on the new PM10, Bussiere notes that they had a month to program and learn the desk. “We also utilized the Virtual Soundcheck feature to run playback tracks to familiarize our team with operation of the desk,” he reported. “The tools that are provided in the PM10 are amazing—we are utilizing Rupert Neve Designs SILK on every input, and also relying on the Rupert 773, Dynamic EQ, U76 and Portico 5033 heavily. The Yamaha PM10 is the best thing to happen to audio since the SM58.”
