Keeping It Simple at the Super Bowl

As Super Bowl XLIX illustrated all too well, sometimes it pays to do things the simple way (like, say, hand off the ball to running back Marshawn Lynch when you’re on the 1-yard line). Further underlining the power of simplicity at the game—in a far more positive way—was pop-rock stalwart Lenny Kravitz.

Glendale, AZ (February 3, 2015)—As Super Bowl XLIX illustrated all too well, sometimes it pays to do things the simple way (like, say, hand off the ball to running back Marshawn Lynch when you’re on the 1-yard line). Further underlining the power of simplicity at the game—and in a far more positive way—was pop-rock stalwart Lenny Kravitz.

Kravitz appeared earlier in the evening, making a cameo during the halftime show by pop songstress Katy Perry. In stark contrast to all the impressive projection, lighting and dancing sharks of the brief production, Kravitz suddenly appeared to duet with the singer on her first hit, “I Kissed A Girl.”

Carrying the banner for the simplistic cool of rock n’ roll, Kravitz’s comparatively low-key performance found him belting into an Audio-Technica Artist Elite 5000 Series Wireless with AEW-T6100a Hypercardioid Dynamic Handheld Microphone/Transmitter, placed atop an Atlas Sound MS20 mic stand, all the while playing the first of Gibson’s new 59 Black Over Flame Top series guitars. With a record 114.4 million viewers watching the game around the U.S., Kravitz’s appearance went off without a hitch, leaving all the Monday-morning second-guessing to focus on a different part of the evening.
