New York, NY (November 19, 2015)—As any RF engineer will point out at the drop of a hat, there’s far more audio happening at a major event than just what’s coming out of the loudspeakers. Take com systems, for instance. While there aren’t many in typical houses of worship, many mega-churches employ them, and the systems are nontheless crucial for big worship productions, like the annual NY CityFest, a religious music event that drew a crowd that packed the Great Lawn at New York City’s Central Park this past summer.
Veteran show production manager and owner of Epoch Creative, Kevin B. Hart wore a in-ear CM-iX intercom headset from Point Source Audio throughout the music festival. Participating artists included Grammy Award-winning artists TobyMac, Israel Houghton, Mandisa, Marcos Witt and Matt Redman. Clair Broadcast (part of Clair Global) provided the RF wireless coordination for the festival at Central Park.
“Standard issue muffs are complicated when trying to go between the audio feed and the environmental sounds,” opined Hart. “I was able to integrate my 1964 EARS in-ear monitors with the CM-iX, and wore the headset for the first time, without ever taking them off, throughout the entire festival, from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.”
Throughout that time, Hart endlessly switched between left and right feeds while coordinating the communication flow with a team of more than 50 that included FOH, lighting and video techs, assistant stage managers, union stage hands, broadcast truck and artists who brought along their own production teams. “Everyone thought I sounded very clear,” he reports. The events were live-streamed to a global audience including Latin America and Spain.
