“Mixingdrumsonthisrunhasbeenalittledifferent,”headds. “Adam, thedrummer,hasanassortmentof ‘toys’ onhis leftside:octobans,bongos, potsandpans,abucket,or whateverhe foundinthealley whilewe were loadingin.Thereareagoodamountofmicsonthekit,butAdam washavingahardtimewithhearing certain things cutthrough inhis ears.SoIendedup placingthe84sinanX/Yconfigurationoverthedrum kit,hardpanning leftandright,anddelayingeveryotherinput,besides kick,totheseoverheads.TheX/Yconfigmimics humanhearing,anddelayingtheinputs accordinglyhelpscombat phasecancellation between the mics.Thishelpeda lotwiththe wayAdamandthe guyshearthe kitonstage;itsoundsmorenatural tohim,anditdefinitelyhelpsclear thingsup formeoutfront.”
