Live Sound Expo Explodes at AES

The Project Studio Expo first debuted two years ago during the last West-Coast AES Convention; an unqualified hit, it's become a mainstay that attendees look forward to with anticipation. History repeated itself, then, with this past weekend's introduction of the Live Sound Expo (LSE) at the AES Convention in Los Angeles, offering presentations that gave attendees real-world insight and advice from the best in the business.

Los Angeles, CA (October 17, 2014)—The Project Studio Expo first debuted two years ago during the last West-Coast AES Convention; an unqualified hit, it’s become a mainstay that attendees look forward to with anticipation. History repeated itself, then, with this past weekend’s introduction of the Live Sound Expo (LSE) at the AES Convention in Los Angeles, offering presentations that gave attendees real-world insight and advice from the best in the business.

FOH engineer Ken “Pooch” Van Druten took time out from the current Linkin Park world tour to participate in two panels Saturday, including The Art of the Soundcheck. He was as impressed with the questions he got as the audience was with his answers: “It’s crazy because it spans the whole gamut of things. I had one this morning-a young kid who didn’t quite understand what was going on with plug-ins really, but he got the balls to get up and ask a question. And right behind him was another dude going ‘when I plug-in this into that and I…’ so it’s pretty broad and it really is ‘something for everyone.'”

All of the LSE was hosted by Mark Frink, noted live engineer (Zac Brown Band, k.d. lang) and industry journalist. “Los Angeles is definitely a great music city so we’ve had a lot of different ideas to choose from-for instance, we just had Fred Vogler from the Hollywood Bowl here. There’s been some very interesting discussions-once people get talking about sound, it takes on a life of its own.”
