Las Vegas, NV (January 30, 2014)—Italian pro audio/MI manufacturer Montarbo has set its sights on the U.S., setting up North American distribution in a joint venture with Audio Innovation Research. The result is MontAir Distribution, LLC, which is based out of Las Vegas.
The new venture will distribute both Montarbo’s lines of loudspeakers, consoles and amplification products, and A.I.R.’s large-format mixing consoles and DAW throughout North America. While new to the USA, Montarbo products have been sold in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia for the past 50 years
At the recent NAMM convention, MontAir exhibited a variety of products, including the RA16 line array (pictured), a compact enclosure providing a reported 1000 W of applicable continuous power per unit, in a package approximately the same size of a 6U outboard rack case. The RA16 employs two 8-inch, purpose-built woofers with 2.5″ voice coils, utilizing neodymium magnets. Its high frequency section consists of a single custom-built compression driver with a titanium diaphragm, a 3-inch voice coil and 1.4-inch throat. The driver is coupled to an aluminum planar waveguide with its exit between the baffles of the two woofers, which are said to be angled to accompany the natural dispersion of the waveguide. Tooled from birch plywood, this external waveguide serves to couple the outputs of adjacent elements into the cylindrical wavefronts characteristic to a line-source array. An array of four RA16s exhibits 120 degree horizontal dispersion with a frequency response of 70 Hz ÷ 20 kHz (±3 dB).
