National Soundcheck Day: 12-12-12

If you haven't seen this joke yet today, enjoy. The '12/12/12' soundcheck viral gag has taken the online world by storm this Wednesday, with Twitter, Facebook and other media all abuzz with variations on the theme, that include International Roadie Day and so forth, occasionally followed by traditional 'Sound Guy' jokes like: Why do sound guys say 1, 2, 1, 2? Because that's the highest they can count. Classics like that just get funnier every time you hear 'em.

New York, NY (December 12, 2012)—If you haven’t seen this joke yet today, enjoy.

The ’12/12/12′ soundcheck viral gag has taken the online world by storm this Wednesday, with Twitter, Facebook and other outlets all abuzz with variations on the theme like International Roadie Day and so forth, occasionally followed by traditional ‘Sound Guy’ jokes such as: Why do sound guys say 1, 2, 1, 2? Because that’s the highest they can count. Classics like those just get funnier every time you hear ’em.

At least the 12/12/12 viral gag has been a boon for the Audio Engineering Society’s Facebook page; the erstwhile organization posted the joke earlier today, and at this writing, as seen it garner roughly 900 “likes” and 1,700 “shares.”

Nonetheless, the fact remains that outside of the online world briefly acknowledging live sound professionals’ presence, the joke is, in the end, merely a joke—a pleasant way to pass the time. If you’re looking for other pleasant pro audio-related ways to pass the time, might we suggest paging through our brand-new, free, online Portable PA Gear Guide, or if you’re still fixated on soundchecks, trying Yahoo’s irritating kiddie videogame, Soundcheck Madness.
