No Rest at Knotfest for Solotech Nashville

It was two great tastes that went great together when Ozzfest Meets Knotfest brought together the signature festivals of Ozzy Osbourne and Slipknot for back-to-back nights in late September at the San Manuel Amphitheater and Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, CA. With Knotfest turning up the second day—both physically and audibly—SR company Solotech Nashville provided a sizable L-Acoustics K1/K2 rig on the main stage for the day’s festivities.

San Bernardino, CA (November 18, 2016)—It was two great tastes that went great together when Ozzfest Meets Knotfest brought together the signature festivals of Ozzy Osbourne and Slipknot for back-to-back nights in late September at the San Manuel Amphitheater and Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, CA. With Knotfest turning up the second day—both physically and audibly—SR company Solotech Nashville provided a sizable L-Acoustics K1/K2 rig on the main stage for the day’s festivities.

The festivals each had their own production, so when Ozzfest struck on Saturday night, Solotech came in at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for Knotfest, and time was of the essence. “They’re pushing load-ins later and doors earlier to allow for more opening acts,” reported Solotech Nashville technical advisor Jason McCarrick. “I don’t have much time, so the ease and simplicity, that’s what we want—and with L-Acoustics, it’s right there. The rigging is simple and elegant. If you have a long load-in and are waiting for points, it is possible to set all the angles in advance. This makes flying and cabling up each side of the system fast and easy.”

L-Acoustics equipment on Knotfest’s Main Stage, which also featured opening acts Slayer, Amon Amarth, Anthrax, Trivium and Motionless in White, included eight K1 plus four K2 modules flown per side on the main left/right hangs. Side hangs comprised a total of 20 K2 boxes, flown 10 per side. Eight K1-SB subwoofers were additionally flown on each side and were complemented by 24 ground-stacked SB28s. Seven LA8-powered LA-RAKs per side drove the whole system. According to Solotech Nashville managing director Paul Owen, who has been Slipknot’s touring account manager for the past 16 years, this is the third consecutive Knotfest to fly an L-Acoustics K1/K2 rig.

In all, the twin festivals drew a total of more than 62,000 people over the weekend. Slipknot marked this fourth anniversary of Knotfest by performing its second album, 2001’s Iowa, in its entirety for the first time on stage.
