Brooklyn, NY (December 9, 2013)—Rough Trade NYC, a new record store and concert venue that opened late last month in the trendy Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY, has temporarily halted all live shows to soundproof the venue.
Rough Trade NYC is the newest store in the London-based Rough Trade record store franchise, and its first outside of the UK. After four years of planning, the Brooklyn location opened November 25, featuring a 15,000 square foot live music venue, food and drinks and an exhibition space. Acts that have already played the venue include Sky Ferreira, Phosphorescent and NYC art punk legends Television.
However, according to a press release, noise complaints from the store’s neighbors has caused the management to decide to cancel or move scheduled performances to other venues until sound remediation can be completed.
“Following consultation with local residents and local authorities, Rough Trade and The Bowery Presents have decided it would best to put ‘on hold’ all live performance events at the Rough Trade NYC store, until further notice. This decision has been made to allow additional sound remediation work to be carried out, during which time scheduled RTNYC live events, where possible, will be transferred to the other local venues.”
The store will remain open during this project. Hours are 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
