West Springfield, MA (November 14, 2018)—It’s the unofficial state fair for New England, since six states participate annually, and this year saw the Eastern States Exposition—or The Big E, if you will—attract more than 1.5 million people to its circus, parades, car shows, agriculture exposition and more. One of the biggest draws, however, is the endless stream of entertainment—200 shows grace five stages across the entire 17-day event, including concerts by the likes of The Beach Boys, The Marshall Tucker Band, CCM act Casting Crowns, Old Dominion and rapper Ice-T.
Providing sound for the stages, as it has for nearly 20 years, was Massachusetts-based SCL Sound Systems. This year, owner and Production Manager Scott LaRochelle opted to field RCF powered speakers across all of the fair’s major stages with the help of AudionX, a Vermont-based company and RCF partner that maintains a large inventory of cabinets. “I wanted to deploy rigs that sounded good and would handle the demands of the acts,” said LaRochelle. “I also wanted to get some time with the large format HDL50 rig…. This was a good choice and certainly something the touring engineers were happy with.”
At the Xfinity Arena stage, which handled the major act concerts, the main PA was comprised of RCF’s HDL50-A large format line array supported by TTS36-A dual 18” subwoofers, with an additional array to HDL30-A cabinets for front fills and out-fills. Wedges and side-fills, when needed, were TT25-CXA coax monitors and TTL6-A line source cabinets. The entire system was processed using RCF’s RDNet.
Meanwhile, the other stages utilized RCF HDL30-A and HDL6-A line arrays, TTL6-A line source cabinets, SUB8004-A subwoofers and a variety of other RCF speakers. Those stages saw a lineup that included acts such as Blessid Union of Souls, NRBQ, War, Hanson, Tony Orlando, Grandmaster Flash, Jefferson Starship and others.
