Philadelphia, PA (July 28, 2016)—Philadelphia has certainly had a busy July, and that in many ways kicked off with its Independence Day celebration earlier this month. Coined the Wawa Welcome America, the city-wide event included the 65-piece Philly Pops and audio help from the orchestra’s chief engineer Andre Houser.
As chief engineer of Houser Audio, he’s has overseen the orchestra’s sound design and served as its FOH engineer for eight years as the Pops has grown to serve an audience of over 100,000 per year.
For the July 4th event, he opted for Midas’ flagship console, the Pro X, for a performance outside Independence Hall that included a lively score of well-known tunes.
“The Midas Pro X is the perfect solution for the Philly Pops,” he said. “In choosing a console, I looked at preamps, input count, and functionality. The Pro X gives me a great preamp that makes the strings very warm and lush and gives an unamplified feel to the orchestra. The 168 inputs allows me to touch every instrument, and the functionality lets me get to any one of those 168 inputs quickly. It was the natural choice.”
