RCF Readies 2019 Sound Engineering Course in Italy

RCF will help provide a university-level low-residency audio course in Italy this spring.

Reggio Emilia, Italy (November 30, 2018)—Using a distance learning/low-residence format, Italian loudspeaker manufacturer RCF is teaming up with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia for its 2019 Sound Engineering course this spring.

The course, taught in English, will spend six weeks teaching via e-learning methods before convening the class for one week in May at the RCF Audio Academy in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

The primary goal of the course is to provide audio engineers with knowledge of technologies related to sound, transducers and speaker systems, exploring their applications in the professional market. The course will progress from the basics of electroacoustic components, like transducers, amplifiers and digital processors, to the design of a complete audio project based on a real case study. An international reference project carried out by RCF engineers will act as a study guideline to be used during the course.

The learning topics are grouped into four modules:

1) Environmental Acoustics in open air and inner spaces, including design and simulation methods.

2) Transducers and speaker systems, including clusters, arrays and point source configurations.

3) Electronics, including circuit analysis, filters, amplifiers and DSP.

4) Sound system design, including practical experiences in measurements, listening tests and tuning.

The course will be directed by Professor Emilio Lorenzani, Department of Science and Methods for Engineering, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The course will be in e-learning mode for six weeks, beginning February 28, 2019, and then will require a one-week presence, from May 20-24, at the RCF Audio Academy in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
