India (August 29, 2017)—Legendary live sound engineer Robert Scovill has been on the road with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 40th anniversary tour this summer, but the beginning of August found him hosting a pair of live mixing masterclasses in Mumbai and Bangalore to help users get the most out of mixing with the Avid Venue S6L system.
While he is a six-time TEC Award winner who has mixed the likes of Rush, Def Leppard, Matchbox Twenty and Prince among others, Scovill is also Senior Live Sound Specialist for Avid, so for the events, he worked with Ansata, the authorized representative of Avid professional audio products in India. Each masterclass included an in-depth overview of the system, with Scovill discussing his workflow on the console, as he discussed gain staging, how to build show files, create and use custom layouts, use groups to effectively plan a live show, and understand previously unexplored facets of the console. Other aspects discussed included such as delay compensation in the live world scenario and dealing with latency in digital consoles, and more.
The two masterclasses drew 120 attendees in total, with visitor profiles across both cities comprising serious participants from the realm of live sound encompassing aspirants, amateurs and professionals. The two sessions in Mumbai witnessed attendance from audio institutions (students & faculty) for the first, and the second for engineers and seasoned professionals.
