Niles, IL (January 31, 2014)—For a third consecutive year, Shure PSM 1000 Personal Monitor Systems were provided for the performing artists at the 56th Grammy Awards on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in Los Angeles, CA.

In addition to the in-ear use of PSM 1000 for live performances, a combination of Shure SM58, Beta 58, and KSM9 microphones were also used for artist performances.

“It’s always great to see so much Shure equipment on a big production like the Grammys by our endorsers and loyal users,” said Cory Lorentz, Artist Relations Manager at Shure Incorporated. “This level of support gives the production team more confidence to say ‘yes’ to any request that may come—whether it’s last year’s request to dump 30,000 gallons of water on a mic from fun. during the band’s Grammy performance, or Imagine Dragons’ request to have a mic freshly dusted with red powder coating.”

Highlights for Shure included Jay-Z kicking off the night with the Shure UHF-R wireless microphone system. New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde performed “Royals” on the Shure SM58, and other performers such as Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor (Beta 58), John Legend (Beta 58), and Paul McCartney (Beta 58), used wired Shure microphones for their sets. “With 15 of 20 artists using microphones and wireless systems front and center, it was a comfort to me knowing I could count on consistent sound quality,” commented Tom Holmes, Grammy Broadcast Mixer.

Dave Bellamy of Soundtronics coordinated RF for this year’s broadcast. “We’re working in a high RF noise environment with a large channel count,” Bellamy explained. “All the horns were using Shure UR1 on high power in spectrum with a high noise floor, and the equipment worked perfectly.”
