Skully’s Serves Up QSC KLA

Skully’s Music-Diner, a Columbus area rock/hip-hop night spot, recently upgraded its sound system with a QSC KLA Series active line array loudspeaker system.

Columbus, OH (June 1, 2012)—Skully’s Music-Diner, a Columbus area rock/hip-hop night spot, recently upgraded its sound system with a QSC KLA Series active line array loudspeaker system.

The new KLA system, comprising four flown KLA12 12-inch, two-way loudspeakers per side, was installed principally in order to improve coverage to Skully’s upstairs balcony area. The venue’s house engineer, Luke Wells, noted, “Coverage was really an issue; and adding a line array really made sense to reach all the areas and the balcony. With the KLA, we got to hear how great the coverage was before we bought it, and the demo pretty much sold it for us.” The demo was handled by J.C. Bittence from TechRep Marketing, the QSC rep firm in the region, which had previously sold the venue QSC amplifiers to drive some of its monitor wedges. Skully’s purchased the KLA rig from Sound Ideas, Inc., a local retailer of pro audio, DJ, lighting and video equipment.

In addition to regular DJ and dance nights every week, Skully’s also promotes local bands and, just during the last 12 months, has hosted national touring acts such as Zola Jesus, Heartless Bastards, Talib Kweli, Gogol Bordello and Cannibal Corpse. “The Black Keys have played a couple of times,” adds Wells.

“The KLA’s sound is clear as day, front to back,” Wells reports. “The new QSC system is like night and day from what we used to have. I’ve had compliments from guest engineers since we installed the KLA system.”
