Sleep Country Gets Rational

As General Manager of the Sleep Country Amphitheater, an 18,000-seat live music venue 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Dan Braun needed to replace his SPL monitoring system in a short time span, before a Mötley Crüe show, and turned to Rational Acoustics’ 10EaZy system for help.

Portland, OR (December 2, 2014)—As General Manager of the Sleep Country Amphitheater, an 18,000-seat live music venue 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Dan Braun needed to replace his SPL monitoring system in a short time span, before a Mötley Crüe show, and turned to Rational Acoustics’ 10EaZy system for help.

“The Sleep Country Amphitheater has extremely strict operating regulations regarding SPL levels at the mix position (as do many other facilities) and the essence of our ability to operate the venue is dependent on our adherence to the regulations imposed on us,” explained Braun. “In addition to managing the levels during the show, we are required to submit timely reports detailing the Leq levels throughout the event. These documents must be able to withstand the highest scrutiny.”

Braun, who also happens to be the Production Designer for Metallica, had heard about 10EaZy from that band’s FOH Engineer, Mick “Big Mick” Hughes. So he reached out to SG Audio Aps, the developer of the 10EaZy system, for a solution. One quick call later to Rational Acoustics, SG Audio’s US Distributor, and a 10EaZY Class 1 System was enroute to Braun.

“The 10EaZy system was everything it promised; painless to set up, intuitive to use, graphically friendly for the bands’ engineers, and accurate—we compared the results to a B&K meter we have calibrated annually for legal reasons. It even emailed a complete report of the show minutes after its conclusion,” said Braun.
