New York (June 20, 2011)—Rap legend Snoop Dogg recently got a new, custom stage mic sporting a Telefunken Elektroakustik capsule.

Specially built for Tha Doggfather, the wireless stage mic features his name in chrome with jeweled dressing and engraving. The Telefunken Custom Shop adapted the mic with a custom-finished Shure UR-2 transmitter and a Telefunken Elektroakustik M80-WH capsule.

“The early version of the Snoop Dogg mic was inadequately constructed and the massive bling interfered with the wireless transmission,” explained Telefunken’s artist liaison Jason Scheuner. “Our Custom Shop designed a new, rugged version featuring our M80-WH dynamic capsule to provide flawless wireless integrity.”

A specially designed mic sleeve allowed the transmitter to have unobstructed operation during performances at SXSW, Late Night with David Letterman and the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Telefunken’s Scheuner and Snoop Dogg’s FOH/studio engineer Dave “Dizzle” Aron worked together with microphone headquarters to complete the new mic. Aron commented, “The mic Telefunken made for Snoop is the highest fidelity mic I’ve ever used for a live performance. The hotter output level and directionality of the capsule eliminates ambience and creates unmatchable feedback rejection, resulting in the most direct, ‘in your face’ sound I’ve ever heard from a performance mic.”

Telefunken is also currently designing a custom Signature Series large diaphragm studio mic for Snoop Dogg, tentatively named the GG-47, which will have an official release date announced at Summer NAMM in Nashville, TN. The Custom Shop crew is also working on a chrome M80-WH system for country music star Tim McGraw, who performed with a Telefunken wireless mic during the finale of American Idol with winner Scotty McCreery.
