Sound Image Covers San Francisco Pride Celebration

More than half of the event’s 20 stages were covered by Sound Image, and seven of those were outfitted with Vue Audiotechnik systems.

San Francisco, CA (July 10, 2018)—Last month saw a flurry of audio activity in San Francisco as 20 live-music and performance stages were built for the city’s annual Pride Celebration and Rally on June 23 and 24. More than half of those stages sported audio production from Sound Image San Francisco, including the massive main stage outside City Hall.

For City Hall and six other sites, Sound Image fielded its entire inventory of VUE Audiotechnik gear. The main stage ran for the entire weekend, but the other remaining stages, showcasing genres ranging from Pacific Islander Culture to Trance, were logistically challenging, as they had to be set up overnight on Saturday for use on Sunday only.

“Driving in San Francisco is challenging on a good day, but when you’re driving trucks in and out and navigating 1 million spectators in a 36-square-mile city, that makes for a pretty wild ride,” said George Edwards, Sound Image San Francisco’s general manager. “All the more reason we love the VUE al-Class since setup is a breeze and they require little to any tuning once flown. We absolutely love this PA.”

For the Main Stage, Sound Image deployed 12 VUE al-12 large format acoustic linearity line arrays per side, supported with 16 hs-221 infrasonic ACM subwoofers and al-8s for front fill.

The monitor system utilized hm-112 and hm-212 Mike Adams monitors and h-12s and hs-28s for side fills, while VUEDrive Systems Engines provided networked DSP and amplification.

Elsewhere, audio for the Faerie Freedom Village Stage was provided by three a-12 per side and three V4 systems engines, while the Castro Country Club Sober Stage was bolstered by a PA of four al12s per side and a pair of al4SB flyable subwoofers per side; it additionally had two a12s for monitors, and three V4 systems engines.

Over at the Asian & Pacific Islander Community Pride Stage & Pavilion, four al-8s were used per side, along with three al-8SB flyable subwoofers per side, four hm-112s, three V6s and a pair of V4 systems engines.

Even the VIP party had its own stages—three of them—so for the Official SF Pride VIP Party at City Hall, Stage One was covered with a pair of a-12s and a V4 systems engine, while Stage Two had four al-4s per side, two al-4SB per side, a pair a-12s distributed around the rotunda and three V4 systems engines. Finally, Stage Three sported two a-12s and two a-10s.
