Student Conference Gets Relevant, DAS

Earlier this month, the Student Mobilization Conference 2017 was held at the Cox Convention Center Arena in Oklahoma City. Relevant Audio + Visual fielded a DAS Audio system based around Event and Action Series loudspeakers.

Oklahoma City, OK (January 31, 2017)—Earlier this month, the Student Mobilization Conference 2017 was held at the Cox Convention Center Arena in Oklahoma City. The four-day program, intended for spiritual leaders from area colleges, featured numerous speakers, so audio provider Relevant Audio + Visual (Wichita, KS) fielded a DAS Audio system based around Event and Action Series loudspeakers.

Chris Derstein, Relevant’s CEO and operations manager, served as the head production manager for this year’s conference, opting to provide a combination of DAS Event 210A powered 3-way line array elements, Event 218A powered subwoofers, Action M12A powered stage monitors, and Action 8A powered point source enclosures.

“For SMC 2017, there were over 3,400 college students in attendance, the largest SMC conference gathering ever,” he said. “With that many people, it was critically important to provide a sound system with a high level of speech intelligibility in addition to solid music reproduction capabilities.”

The system design found two-dozen Event 210A line array elements flown in left-right hangs of 12 enclosures on either side of the stage. For low-frequency support, the crew utilized eight Event 218A subwoofers on the ground with four elements per side aligned with the flown clusters above. For stage monitoring, the team placed six DAS Action M12As for monitor wedges and, for front fill, four Action 8A loudspeakers, evenly distributed across the front of the stage.

“The results were absolutely amazing,” Derstein said. “Our client was incredibly happy with the DAS audio system and Brandon Deibler, our lead designer on this job, was equally impressed with the DAS system’s performance. I have to say it was the best sounding system we have used for this type of project.”
