Tony Award Sound Nominees Announced

Nominations for the 66th Annual Tony Awards, honoring the best of Broadway theater, were announced Tuesday. While most of the attention was either focused on the successes of "Once" (11 nominations) and "Peter and the Starcatcher" (9 noms) or on the lack thereof for "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" (2 nods), the picks for Best Sound Design of a Play and Best Sound Design of a Musical were also announced.

By Clive Young. New York (May 2, 2012)—Nominations for the 66th Annual Tony Awards, honoring the best of Broadway theater, were announced Tuesday. While most of the attention was either focused on the successes of Once (11 nominations) and Peter and the Starcatcher (9 noms) or on the lack thereof for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark (2 nods), the picks for Best Sound Design of a Play and Best Sound Design of a Musical were also announced.

Best Sound Design of a Play
Paul Arditti — One Man, Two Guvnors
Arditti won the 2009 Best Sound Design of a Musical award for Billy Elliot: The Musical. He was also nominated that same year for Best Sound Design of a Play with Mary Stuart.

Scott Lehrer — Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman
Lehrer was previously nominated in 2010 for A View From The Bridge and 2009 for Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, and won in 2008 for Best Sound Design of a Musical with South Pacific.

Gareth Owen — End of the Rainbow
Owen was previously nominated in 2010 for Best Sound Design of a Musical with A Little Night Music.

Darron L West — Peter and the Starcatcher
This is West’s first nomination.

Best Sound Design of a Musical
Acme Sound Partners — The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess
Acme has been previously nominated for Best Sound Design of a Musical in 2008 (In The Heights) and 2009 (Hair), and for Best Sound Design of a Play in 2010 (Fences) and 2011 (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo).

Clive Goodwin — Once
This is Goodwin’s first nomination.

Kai Harada — Follies
This is Harada’s first nomination.

The Tony Awards ceremony will broadcast live on Sunday, June 10 at 8PM on CBS.
