Apogee Electronics’ Duet ($495) is a 2-channel 24-bit/96kHz FireWire audio interface designed specifically for the Mac and compatible with any Core Audio-compliant audio application. Duet’s control functions are built directly into Apple’s Logic Pro, Logic Express, Soundtrack Pro and GarageBand software.
Duet’s inputs and outputs feature two channels of Apogee’s A/D and D/A conversion. It has two balanced XLR inputs, with selectable 48-volt phantom power on each input, and two unbalanced high impedance instrument inputs. The inputs offer two premium, digitally controlled microphone preamps with 75 dB of gain. The unit also has two unbalanced -10 dBV ¼-inch line outputs for powered speakers and one high-level stereo headphone output.
Duet also features a multi-function controller knob for volume and input gain control and assignable MIDI control, multi-segment LED meters to display input or output levels and Apogee’s Maestro software for advanced control and low latency mixing.
