Bassist John Patitucci Picks Up Radial Bassbone

Grammy Award-winning bassist John Patitucci (Chick Corea’s Elektric Band and Akoustic Band) has released several albums and made notable contributions to ensembles led by Wayne Shorter, Stan Getz, Freddie Hubbard and Danilo Pérez, to name only a few.

In preparation for the recent Chick Corea Electrik tour, the band’s technical support manager, Bob Rice, contacted British Columbia’s Radial Engineering to arrange some gear for testing. Rice became familiar with Radial products while on tour with Ben Harper where they used Radial direct boxes and various Tonebone pedals, including the Switchbone ABY and Classic tube distortion on both Harper’s and Mark Ford’s guitar rigs. For Patitucci’s rig, Rice suggested Radial’s Bassbone.

Petitucci reflected, “The Bassbone has solved several longstanding problems for me. It has enabled me to utilize effects with an isolated loop that doesn’t degrade my sound in the least. It gives me two channels, so I can use my electric and acoustic basses while using only one channel on my amp. It gives me a boost switch for solos, and even allows me to switch on additional EQ settings. My sound gets sent to the house system by a clean, built-in DI that sounds consistently great! So what’s not to like about all of that?”
