Sound, light and stage production specialists Big Mo Pro Inc. (Persippany, N.J.) have taken delivery of 12 Lake Contour digital loudspeaker processors and intend to invest in 12 more during the coming year.

Big Mo Pro was founded by entertainment production industry veteran partners Glenn Radler, Greg Rosenkrans and Jesse Hoefflinger, who selected Lake Contour for its equalization capabilities, tight integration with the L-Acoustics KUDO line array and wireless control functionality.

“The control that Lake Contour gives you is unparalleled,” says Rosenkrans, president of Big Mo Pro. “The Mesa EQ filter is the big thing. The ability to split each side of a parametric filter and control the cut and boost of the slopes separately is huge. Loudspeaker response is asymmetrical, and Lake’s Mesa filter gives you complete control over that.”

The Lake Contour’s powerful EQ overlay processing may be configured to provide Lake Mesa EQ parametric overlays and ideal graphic EQ overlays, with a virtually unlimited number of EQ filters producing a single EQ curve representing the sum of the layers.

Hoefflinger, Big Mo Pro’s VP and head of technology, adds, “We are also impressed with the linear phase brick wall crossovers, which are a major improvement over traditional processors. You can select slopes of 180 dB or more per octave between frequency bands, which eliminates phasing problems. That minimizes off-axis lobing and allows you to optimize different types of speaker cabinets within a system, improves the impulse response and gives you greater sound levels from the speakers as compared to other processors.”

Big Mo Pro has already integrated the initial delivery of Lake Contours with a recently acquired L-Acoustics KUDO line array system, which is supported in the Lake preset library. Using a wireless tablet, Big Mo Pro engineers can access the Lake Controller software from anywhere within a venue to ensure optimum sound system performance at every seat in the house.

Big Mo Pro’s CFO Radler believes that the features and functionality of the Lake Contour make it appropriate not just for KUDO, but also for any speaker system in Big Mo Pro’s inventory. “The main reason for us jumping into the Lake was to drive the line array, but we find we’re using them for everything,” he said.
