Crawford Broadcasting Acquires AKG Perception Series Mics

On-air talent Kirk Kilpatrick works in one of several Crawford studios using AKG Perception 200 microphones.

Crawford Broadcasting of Birmingham, Ala. recently purchased 16 AKG Perception 200 large-diaphragm condenser microphones for several of its studios. The facility has installed 12 mics and keeps the remaining four as spares in case of emergency. Crawford Broadcasting owns and operates WDJC, WYDE, WXJC, WPHC and WLGD radio stations in Alabama.

After testing various microphones from several manufacturers, chief engineer Stephen Poole chose the AKG Perception 200 for its price/performance ratio. “The value of the unit is really too good to pass up,” explains Poole. “We’ve installed the mics very heavily in production, as well as in all our remotes, and have been pleased with the performance.”

The Perception 200 microphone offers a 1-inch diaphragm, rugged metal housing and cardioid polar pattern. With switchable bass roll-off and switchable –10dB pre-attenuation pad, the Perception 200 is well suited for sources with high SPL levels up to 145db SPL.
