Jeff Blugrind, owner of DJ and sound reinforcement company Dance Connection Entertainment (Ladera Ranch, Calif.), provided a sound system for the city’s Independence Day celebration and parade. As Blugrind recounts, “Our dilemma arose when we realized that we not only needed a system for the staging area at the beginning of the parade route, but we also needed a system for the carnival area at the end of the parade route before the parade’s conclusion.
“The obvious solution was to set up two separate static systems, but since we were also providing the main system for the fireworks show, we only had one pair of Mackie SRM450s remaining in our inventory. I realized that I could solve my problem in a really cool way by simply building a mobile system using the two available SRM450s and my Hummer H2.”
The SRM450s were attached to a custom-made platform using Allen Products’ hardware. A 1,000-watt Yamaha generator provided power. Blugrind confirms, “I needed to use a relatively small generator to keep the ambient noise low. At first, I was worried that the Yamaha wouldn’t have enough power to drive the system without clipping, but the Mackie’s are so efficient that the whole thing worked like a charm and sounded fantastic. The whole thing was a big hit!”
