Fall Conference Announced for 700MHz Auction

Information Gatekeepers Inc. (IGI), in cooperation with Information Age Economics (IAE), will organize a continuation of their “Telecom Policy and Regulation Series,” focusing on the 700MHz auction, its consequences and the opportunities it presents.

This series, which will be held in a number of cities across the U.S., is part of IGI’s Executive Telecom Briefings. IAE is headed up by Dr. Alan Pearce, a well-known insider on telecommunications policy and regulatory issues in Washington, D.C.

The FCC has adopted an auction schedule for the 700MHz UHF band that, among other things, incorporates a requirement that at least a portion of the spectrum will be open to any devices, applications and services, along with third-party networks. The auction will begin in January 2008. The FCC’s decision also includes the possible authorization of a nationwide wireless broadband network for first responders to emergenciesa. The rules are not yet set for how that network will be shared with commercial providers and other public safety networks.

Three briefings are planned: October 24, 2007, Boston; November 9, 2007, New York City; and December 5, 2007, Washington, D.C..
