Shattered Glass’ A.V. & Staging division recently provided a portable VerTec system for the Coca-Cola Colab Massive Mix Concerts in South Africa. The three-day event featured a mix of South African talent and international artists, including Fatboy Slim, Stereo MCs, Audio Bullys, Simple Plan, Seether and Collective Soul.
A total of 24 VerTec VT4888 midsize full-range line array elements were combined with 16 full-size VT4880 subwoofers to create a sound system to meet the presentation and staging needs for the tour project. Stages were set up in public spaces and sports stadiums in major South African cities at venues such as ABSA Stadium in Durban, SuperSport Park in Centurion and Green Point Stadium in Capetown.
The JBL VerTec system was powered by Crown I-Tech amplifiers, and Shattered Glass deployed its new dbx 4800 DriveRack loudspeaker management system for the events. Soundcraft MH3-40 consoles were used for FOH and monitor systems, while JBL SR712M monitors provided onstage support.
“We had crowds ranging from 8,000 to 16,000 at every show on the tour, and the sound system performed flawlessly every time,” says Alex Sanfilippo, technical director for the Shattered Glass Group. “The JBL VerTec system has always sounded good, but when driven with the new dbx 4800 DriveRack, the sound has an even smoother quality to it.”
