MixLine Feature: Recording Academy-SF Hosts Studio Training Session

Leff Lefferts gives Digidesign ICON tips at Studio 880, during the San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy’s recent Studio Training Session

The San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy and the P&E Wing recently held the latest of its quarterly Studio Training Sessions at Studio 880 in Oakland, Calif. Digidesign Pro Tools specialist Leff Lefferts led the session, educating the group to the myriad issues surrounding the Digidesign ICON environment and Pro Tools Version 6.9.3. For reference, Lefferts had the advantage of working on one of Studio 880’s recently installed ICON systems, which includes a 32-fader D-Control work surface and ProTools HD-3 workstation. The renovated Studio A also includes a new 5.1 surround system, and maintains its ample racks of old and new outboard gear.

In addition to answering questions such as how to transfer analog tracks into Pro Tools and how to incorporate vintage microphone preamps with plug-ins, Lefferts discussed how to work with volume automation, assign EQ plug-ins, assign inputs and create an aux send. Lefferts also explained some of the new features found in Pro Tools Version 6.9.2

Jeff Briss, from local pro audio/video dealer Cutting Edge, and Digidesign’s Dave Anderson were also on hand to show off the D-Command control surface, which offers ICON-exclusive Pro Tools functionality in more compact package.
