Studio consultant Tony Belmont (l) and Scarface in The Garage
Def Jam South president and rap artist Scarface teamed with Professional Audio Design and Auralex Acoustics to build a home studio near his Houston locale. Aptly named “The Garage,” Scarface’s studio features a Pro Tools|HD system and Digidesign Control|24 (which he runs into Digidesign 192s) worksurface at its core.
PAD, which planned and executed the final setup of the new studio, supplied additional equipment, including 4-band Neve EQs, SSL and API mic pre’s and “every Pro Tools plug-in that money can buy,” according to studio consultant Tony Belmont. PAD also advised Scarface on microphone purchases, such as the Soundelux U99 and Neumann U87Ai studio microphone set that will be used for several of Scarface’s upcoming projects, including the soundtrack for his upcoming movie, Consequences.
In addition to hosting larger acts such as New York City export Method Man, The Garage is also being utilized for Scarface’s upcoming album and his guest spots for other major acts.
According to PAD spokespersons, Scarface also plans to open a commercial facility in the Houston area in the future.
