Power Plus Sound & Lighting (San Diego, Calif.) recently provided audio for the San Diego Symphony summer concert series, specifically using WorxAudio Technologies’ new TrueLine TLV8 line array.
The WorxAudio loudspeaker system comprises four ultracompact TL V8 line array cabinets centered above the orchestra, 10 MaxSeries 3.5As split between the left and right front-of-house position, eight WaveSeries 6As for front-fill, two MaxSeries 2.5Ms for side front/fill and six WaveSeries 218S sub bass. The entire system was powered by Crown’s MacroTech VZ Series of amps, including several 5002VZs.
According to David Leyton, engineer for the San Diego Symphony, “The TrueLine TLV8 array is a great product. We had no problems getting the vocals on top of everything in the mix. Additionally, the TLV8 is very efficient and produces an extremely high SPL for its size. The coverage is unlike anything we’ve used before: With just four boxes, we could cover the entire venue, at 250×180 feet, with clear fullrange sound. It really does cover 140 degrees horizontally and that meant that we needed our front-fills a lot less than before.”
Lane Rickard, president of Power Plus Sound & Lighting, says, “We knew we had to deliver a high-quality speaker system to please this world-class symphony, along with conquering the challenging complexities of this outdoor venue. After a WorxAudio line array demonstration, we were extremely impressed with the TLV8’s full-range, compact size and easy-to-use rigging. Its wide horizontal coverage combined with its ability to produce extremely high SPL from such a small box made it our choice.”
