Shure Incorporated has opened the Shure Technology Annex, an addition to the company’s Niles, Ill.-based corporate headquarters. This 65,000-square-foot, two-story structure is occupied by Shure’s Engineering and Quality Laboratories, Service Department, Tool and Model Shops, Archives, training rooms, and receiving dock.

Features of the Shure Technology Annex include a microphone lab with offices, lab space and two new anechoic chambers, one for the development of new products and another for quality engineering testing.

The Annex’s Critical Listening Center will house a recording studio and an environment for product testing. A Quality Engineering Lab will house environmental testing of product reaction to heat, cold, moisture, corrosion and other potential hazards. This lab includes a HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) Chamber that allows for rapid and very extreme temperature changes. An RF (radio frequency) chamber will allow the company to conduct precision RF testing of its wireless products. The Shure archives, which contain historical photos, documents and products will also be housed in the new Annex.
