SLS Loudspeakers debuted the new P-LS8695 Powered Compact Line Array speaker system at AES 2004. The new system is a powered version of its LS8695 Compact Line Source Array.

“Our engineering team was challenged to make what we consider the most effective line array speaker system even better, and they came up with the P-LS8695,” says Jeff Lowry, director of marketing for SLS. “The addition of power amplifiers integrated into the design allows for more user installation flexibility for both fixed and mobile applications.”

The P-LS8695 incorporates a 24-bit, 96kHz DSP processing engine that was developed using acoustic performance algorithms optimized for the original LS8695. The processing engine presents maximally flat response while maintaining sonic fidelity associated with the system. Two high-performance, high-power digital amplifiers were incorporated to independently power the low- and high-frequency drivers.

The integrated low-frequency amplifier provides 1,000 watts of power to drive the ultraclean low- and mid-frequency ranges, while the integrated high-frequency amp provides 500W of power. The input to the amplifier section is fully balanced with adjustable sensitivity, and a balanced transmitter is included for looping multiple P-LS8695 systems.

A selectable 80kHz highpass filter for the low-frequency section when using the P-LS8695 with an additional subwoofer is available. An LED status indication for power, protect, peak and signal presence rounds out the feature set.
