SLS PS8R

SLS Loudspeakers (Booth #5222, Hall B) will unveil the newest addition to its popular Studio Reference Series, the PS8R. Incorporating the new Evenstar Sigma-Delta digital amplifier technology, the PS8R offers studios the S8R ribbon-equipped reference monitor as a stand-alone, bi-amplified near-field critical-listening monitor system.

The Evenstar Sigma-Delta digital amplifier in the PS8R has been customized and matched to power the S8R drivers with significant headroom, damping and uniform response. The amplifier topology reportedly lowers distortion (both harmonic and intermodulated), increases bandwidth and improves noise performance over traditional amplifier technologies.

Two power supplies were incorporated, and a balanced receiver and a 2-channel active crossover were custom-designed and matched to the S8R acoustic performance to allow maximum flat response and accurate time-alignment, yielding a frequency response of 44 to 20k Hz +/-2 dB. The low–frequency amplifier delivers 180W RMS of output power to the 8-inch woofer with an integral phase plug, while the high-frequency amplifier yields 40W RMS to drive the PRD500 5-inch ribbon driver. Maximum SPL is 110 dB at 1m. A dispersion angle of 120° horizontal/30° vertical allows for a smooth, wide-area listening zone. The PS8R also incorporates a third-order sub-sonic filter to reject extreme low-frequency energy and a selectable second-order 80Hz highpass filter for low-frequency channel is available when using the PS8R with an additional subwoofer.

Balanced inputs with adjustable sensitivity help maximize signal transfer, while the LED status indicator shows operational status for power, protect, peak and standby at a glance. Enclosure area is 19×10.5×12.375 (HxWxD).
