Handling production manager/front-of-house engineer duties for Peter Mayer (who also records with Jimmy Buffett as part of the Coral Reefer Band) is Chad Stewart, owner of Stewart Sound (Leicester N.C.). Stewart Sound also provides sound, lighting, backline and staging for festivals and shows throughout the south.

Due to Mayer’s hectic touring schedule, Stewart Sound is not always able to carry its complement of d&b loudspeakers, Midas consoles and processing gear, but what can be found in the truck pack is a mic package comprising Heil Sound PR 20, PR 30 and PR 40s.
“I get almost every miking need taken care of by three models of Heil mics,” Chad Stewart. “The PR 20 is quickly turning into my all purpose ‘go-to’ microphone. I use the PR 30 for guitar, percussion and as a drum overhead. I recently used the PR 40 on a cajon and it could alter the path of flying insects!”
According to Mayer, “No question about it, Chad Stewart is part of the band when he mixes FOH for the Peter Mayer Group. Song by song, he has become an essential element in our sound. He has been honest about the need for improvements here and there, whether it is with aspects of the show or recommending changes in the equipment we use. That included a total revamp of our sound system in 2006, and taking Heil Sound microphones on our tour last year. Care for each note you play should be matched with care in what microphone delivers those notes to the audience!
