Three Winners Scoop Abbey Road Mastering & Plug-ins

Legendary British recording studio Abbey Road has announced the results of its November 2015 mastering giveaway.

The first prize, won by Ellis Tucker with the track “MLP Intentions,” was free mastering of four tracks by the Abbey Road team, plus a plug-in of choice from the Waves Abbey Road Collection. The second prize, won by Craig Caudill with “Time To Go,” was free mastering of one track plus one Abbey Road Collection plug-in. Lorant Toth won the third prize, free mastering of one track, with “Moments.”

The giveaway was organized to commemorate the relaunch of Abbey Road’s online mastering service, which allows musicians and producers from all over the globe to take advantage of Abbey Road’s experienced engineers and extensive selection of vintage and modern mastering equipment.

Entrants had to submit tracks of under five minutes, which were auditioned by a selected panel of Abbey Road’s mastering engineers, including Geoff Pesche, Christian Wright and Alex Wharton.

The selection of the winners was based on stylistic and technical criteria. As Abbey Road mastering engineer Geoff Pesche explains, the winners were chosen for the dynamic range of their entries, which meant that the tracks could benefit most from the mastering process. “They all had headroom, so we could make them louder and nicer-sounding without having to turn the level down first. The winners were also the ones we felt would benefit most from the gear we have here at Abbey Road.”
