Thunder Audio provided RCF TTS56-A subwoofers for driving low end during the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit.
In an effort to provide the low end that today’s music demands, Thunder Audio, headquartered in Livonia, Mich., recently added 34 RCF subwoofers to its production inventory. For more than three decades, Thunder Audio has provided sound reinforcement systems and crews for artists and corporate events, with a client list that includes Trace Adkins, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Robert Plant, Steely Dan, and Metallica.
“The subharmonic frequency coverage and punch that come from these boxes is amazing,” explains Tony Villarreal, owner of Thunder Audio. “Whether used as forward facing sub frequency enhancement or as end-fire arrays, the performance is second to none.”
Thunder Audio added 24 TTS56-A (double 21-inch) subs along with eight TTL36-AS (double 18-inch) flyable active subwoofers and two TTS28-A (double 18-inch) active subs.
“With built-in processing and individual delay capability, you can create many configurations quickly while in the field,” says Greg Snyder, business development manager for Thunder Audio. “What a great product for us to have added to our audio tool box.”
Thunder Audio recently used the TTS56-A subwoofers for a number of high profile events. The Movement Electronic Music Festival, which took place on New Year’s Eve at The Palace of Auburn Hills, required 18 boxes, while the Movement Electronic Music Festival that was held at Hart Plaza in Detroit used 16. Thunder Audio provided 24 for the Orion Music Festival in Detroit with Metallica. The band also used the subs to support their recent performance at the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans.
The TTS56-A is a high power, high output active subwoofer system that features two 21-inch neodymium woofers. Each subwoofer is powered by a 6,800 watt, 2-channel digital amplifier with PFC. On-board DSP sets new standards for distortion, noise and thermal efficiency. Monitoring of all system parameters as well as modification of gain, equalization or delay is possible via the internal RDnet networking board.
The TTL36-AS is a flyable, active subwoofer that features a clam-shell design to ensure maximum output. The 2×4.5-inch voice coil and vented 18-inch woofer design offers the minimum of power compression. Each module is powered by a 4,000-watt, 2-channel digital amplifier with PFC. Similar to the TTS56-A, proprietary RDNet software allows end-users the capability to control and monitor DSP and other subwoofer parameters.

Villarreal and Snyder confirmed that 2013 will be a busy year for the new subwoofers with plenty of outdoor festivals and concerts requiring the air movement the boxes provide.
