Universal Audio Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection, Maag EQ4 Plug-In for UAD Platform, Apollo Audio Interfaces

UA’s Fairchild Tube Limiter Plug-In Collection

Universal Audio in Scotts Valley, Calif., announces the Fairchild Tube Limiter Plug-In Collection ($299) and Maag EQ4 Plug-In ($229), which was developed in partnership with Brainworx, for the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform and Apollo Audio Interfaces. UA states that its team of DSP experts has improved upon the company’s Fairchild 670 Legacy plug-in, originally released in 2004.

UA says it has improved the original time constants and gain reduction curves in the Fairchild 670 plug-in while modeling, for the first time ever, the complete tube-powered amplifier and transformer sections of their hardware counterparts. The new UAD Fairchild Limiter Collection is based on an accurate circuit model of Ocean Way’s “golden-reference” units.

The Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection also offers “digital only” features such as sidechain filtering, dry/wet parallel blend, and headroom controls, giving owners of Apollo audio interfaces and UAD-2 DSP Accelerator hardware modern workflow appointments.

The Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection is part of the new UAD Software Version 7.4, which also includes the Maag EQ4 Plug-In. The Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection includes the Fairchild mono 660 and stereo 670, each with their own sonic attributes and feature sets. It models entire electronic path, including tube amplifiers and transformers for complete analog color and behavior, and offers a Lateral-Vertical mode for stereo imaging and balance control. It requires UAD-2 DSP Accelerator Card or Apollo Interface.

UA’s Maag EQ4 plug-in

In partnership with direct developer Brainworx, Universal Audio adds the Maag EQ4 Plug-In to the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform. Based on Cliff Maag’s NTI EQ3 from the ’80s, the EQ4 is designed to provide unparalleled transparency and top-end presence while maintaining a true, natural sound. It features Maag’s five-position Air Band control, a major component to the vocal mix chain on Madonna’s Ray of Light as well as Celine Dion’s Taking Chances. Now, owners of Apollo audio interfaces and UAD-2 DSP Accelerator hardware can record and mix with an exacting digital emulation of this unique EQ.

Available for purchase via UA’s Online Store, the Maag EQ4 plug-in is part of the new UAD Software V. 7.4, which also includes the Fairchild Tube Limiter Plug-In Collection. The Maag EQ4 plug-in is designed to add presence to vocals, acoustic guitars, and overheads, and elevate treble frequencies without harshness or hiss. It adjusts overall EQ level with an added Trim control, and requires a UAD-2 DSP Accelerator Card or Apollo Interface.
