Vanessa Carlton Solo Tour Features Evolution 935 Mic

Singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton’s first solo tour (now just wrapping up) found the classically trained pianist playing a grand piano and using several Sennheiser Evolution Series microphones.

Carlton’s front-of-house engineer, Mark Chase, confirms, “I’m using the e935 on her vocal.” Chase carried a number of alternative Sennheiser microphone setups for the piano, reporting, “I have three different setups that I use, depending on how I’m going to mike the piano. If I have the lid open, I use either the e614s or the new e914s.

“I’m using e906s, the new frequency-selectable guitar mic with the 3k boost, inside the piano with the lid closed,” he continues. “I’ve built my own clamping system to mount them when I have the piano lid closed.”

Carlton, who released her second album, Harmonium, will follow her first solo tour of small theaters with a handful of college tour dates and performances at casinos in the northeast.
