Abbey Road Builds Two New Studios

Abbey Road Studios is opening two new studios, The Gatehouse and The Front Room, in what the facility says is the biggest transformation since it was founded in 1931.

London, UK (March 17, 2017)—Abbey Road Studios is opening two new studios, The Gatehouse and The Front Room, in what the facility says is the biggest transformation since it was founded in 1931.

By renovating and transforming the main townhouse front room and garage area, the new studios remain part of Abbey Road Studios’ core facility. According to a company statement, artists working in The Gatehouse and The Front Room will have access to state-of-the-art recording technology, legacy vintage equipment and instruments used on landmark recordings as well as be able to tap into expertise of Abbey Road Studios’ engineers.

Featuring a multi-surfaced live space, The Gatehouse offers a mix of classic analog gear and current digital audio workstation integration. This includes a AMS Neve 16-fader BCM10/2 Mk2 recording console, support for Pro Tools HDX2, Logic Pro X and Abelton music production software and an outboard collection boasting UA, API, Neve, Chandler and Bricasti audio hardware.

A set-up intended for smaller recordings and music production, The Front Room offers the same audio equipment set-up as The Gatehouse but features a SSL 24-fader Duality delta recording console.

Isabel Garvey, managing director at Abbey Road Studios says, “The opening of the new studios is one of the biggest events in Abbey Road Studios’ unique history…We are investing in our core business to ensure we maintain Abbey Road as a vibrant recording studio, with the two new studios designed to expand our appeal to a wide range of music creators.”

The introduction of The Gatehouse and The Front Room enables the facility to accommodate everything from large orchestral recordings through to vocal overdubs, with studio rooms catering for every A&R and recording budget. The two new studios complement the existing Studios One, Two and Three as well as the new mix stage with Dolby Atmos Premier Studio Certification.
