London, UK (September 23, 2015)—Producer, engineer, and audio educator Alan Parsons (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project) will bring his Master Class Training Sessions ‘back home’ to Abbey Road Studios on November 16-17 and again on November 18-19.
Parsons started working at the iconic London landmark in the late 1960s, with The Beatles, on their final two albums, Let It Be and Abbey Road. In addition to many years recording at Abbey Road as an engineer, producer and as an artist, Parsons was even briefly vice president of EMI Studios Group—including Abbey Road—in the late 1990s before he resumed his creative career and re-located to California.
Started initially in support of his award-winning Art And Science Of Sound Recording video series and book, MCTS workshops have become stand-alone, intensive, hands-on learning experiences, where attendees assist Parsons on routing and arrangement decisions. Over the course of the workshops, attendees both study and are part of all the technical processes, including instrument miking, live tracking, instrumental overdubs, recording vocals, processing and mixing.
The Abbey Road sessions will be held in Studio 3, the studio where George Martin first auditioned The Beatles in 1962 and where Pink Floyd made Wish You Were Here, the follow-up to the Parsons-engineered The Dark Side Of The Moon. Parsons was not able to assume engineering duties on that record due to the success of his own The Alan Parsons Project.
The artist at Session 1 (Nov. 16-17) will be the winner of a New Recording Artist contest being held for the event. Session 2 (Nov. 18-19) will feature the music of an international recording artist.
On the weekend before the first MCTS, Alan will deliver the inaugural Sleeve Notes lecture series at Abbey Road. Moderated by David Hepworth, entitled From Mono To Infinity, the address examines the role that recording technology played in the music created during Alan Parsons’ tenure at Abbey Road.
