Burlington, MA (March 6, 2014)—The 86th Annual Academy Awards was held this past weekend in Los Angeles, recognizing the actors, directors, producers, and more behind this year’s top films. Among this year’s nominees and winners were users of Avid’s many sound editing solutions.
Best Sound Editing winner Glenn Freemantle and Best Sound Mixing winners, Skip Lievsay, Niv Adiri, Christopher Benstead and Chris Munro used Avid Pro Tools to edit and mix the audio for Gravity. Other audio nominees included Andy Koyama, Beau Borders and David Brownlow, who used Avid’s System 5 control surface for Best Sound Mixing nominee Lone Survivor.
Pro Tools was also used to create the Best Original Song winner, “Let It Go,” from Frozen (Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez) and nominee “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 (Pharrell Williams). Users of Sibelius music notation software nominated for Best Original Score included John Williams for The Book Thief, Owen Pallett for Her, Alexandre Desplat for Philomena, and Thomas Newman for Saving Mr. Banks.
