Following their tour of Japan, Jon Bon Jovi and company returned to the U.S. this past spring to kick-off a North American excursion in support of Bounce. In order to smooth out all of the peaks in the vocals and give Bon Jovi a real album-like quality, FOH engineer Dave Eisenhauer uses Summit Audio’s DCL-200 dual compressor/limiter and TLA-100A tube-leveling amplifier.

“The tube circuitry in the Summit Audio units adds a really warm quality,” says Eisenhauer. “They are also very versatile. You can get them to emulate a lot of other compressors that are twice as expensive. It gives you a lot of flexibility. I’ve used them on vocals, the bass guitar, overheads and I’ve even used the DCL-200s on drums. It really warms up the sound. I’ve used the TLA-100A on tour with Enrique Iglesias, Sheryl Crow and John Mellencamp. It’s truly my first choice in vocal compressors.”
