Digidesign Enters Live Sound Market with New Digital Mixing Console

Digidesign, a division of Avid Technology Inc., announced plans toenter the sound reinforcement market with a new digital mixing consolesystem aimed for use in tours, theatrical productions, corporateinstallations and houses of worship. The system will featurehigh-fidelity audio and a recording and playback pathway toDigidesign’s Pro Tools digital audio workstation.

Digidesign general manager Dave Lebolt commented, “For thepast three years, we’ve engaged in a huge development effort tocreate a live mixing system that combines our DSP and control surfaceexpertise with the special requirements of performance sound. Theresult of this effort is a new product line that, like the Pro Toolsfamily of systems, is engineered to be flexible, expandable andscalable to meet many different needs and price points. With theserevolutionary products, we hope to achieve the same level of success inthe live sound market as we have in the recording and post-productionindustries.”

Digidesign plans to unveil its sound reinforcement product line inSeptember 2004 at the PLASA event in London; the system is expected toship by the end of 2004.
