Associated Production Music, a provider of production music to theentertainment industry, and Young Musicians Foundation, which supportsthe development of musicians through financial assistance, performanceopportunities and music education programs, announced a new educationalfellowship to introduce young musicians to professional opportunitiesin the business of film and television music.

Associated Production Music, a provider of production music to theentertainment industry, and Young Musicians Foundation, which supportsthe development of musicians through financial assistance, performanceopportunities and music education programs, announced a new educationalfellowship to introduce young musicians to professional opportunitiesin the business of film and television music.

“APM wants aspiring, young musicians to know about the manyprofessional opportunities that exist throughout the film andtelevision music business,” said APM president Adam Taylor.“By showing young musicians how the movie music businessfunctions, we hope to contribute to the development of the nextgeneration of film and television music composers, supervisors andexecutives.”

YMF Chair Beverly Bergmann made the announcement at thefoundation’s 49th annual gala benefit at the Beverly HiltonHotel. Past honoree Carl Reiner hosted and event vice-chair MervGriffin appeared as guest star entertainer at the event, which honoredGrammy- and Emmy-winning composer/conductor Mort Lindsey and theBeverly Hills Courier editor and publisher March Schwartz and hiswife.

YMF will select the fellow, who will participate in 16 differenthalf-day sessions that are designed to provide direct insight intodifferent aspects of the film and television music business, includingprimers on music copyrights, licensing and clearances; working withAPM’s staff on music searches for their clients, studio ornetwork client calls; and attending live scoring sessions and finalaudio mixes. The fellow will also work with YMF’s staff to helpcatalog and archive the nonprofit’s orchestral music library.

YMF will select the fellow in January. Qualifying musicians areencouraged to contact YMF to apply. The inaugural fellowship willcommence in February 2004, and the selected fellow will receive acompensatory stipend.
